Our Musical Services

Limbshakers Jazz Band offers a number of musical programs, suitable for concerts, private events, business meetings, school programs, etc. The music stands alone or we can introduce each piece and the rich history contained therein (including sheet music covers and other historical artifacts).

Group sizes range from trio to sextet. Our core band includes saxophone/clarinet/vocals plus upright bass and electric guitar. We add trombone, pedal steel guitar and drums based on client interest.

The programs below are divided by time period for convenience; there is overlap and we mix themes depending on client interest. Please contact allen.livermore@gmail.com if interested; and we will design an affordable, custom program to meet your needs.

The Aughts and Teens: instrumental and vocal ragtime compositions such as “Who’s There?” (1905) “Good Evening, Caroline” (1909), “I’m Getting Ready for My Mother-in-Law” (1907) “My Gal Sal” (1907), “Crocodile Isle,” “Fido is a Hot Dog Now,” “Bo-La-Bo,” “Take Me to That Land of Jazz,” “Somebody Else is Gettin’ It” (1911), “Take Your Girlie to the Movies” (1919), “Steamboat Bill” (1911) “etc.

WWI and Prohibition: songs from the period or that examine consequences or aftermath thereof: “Alcoholic Blues,” (1919), “I Thank You, Mr. Hoover” (1918), “How Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm (After They’ve Seen Paree),” etc.

The Twenties: “My Sweetie Went Away (She Didn’t Say Where, When or Why),” “I Wish There Was a Wireless to Heaven,” “The A.B.C.D. Blues,” etc.

Presidential Songs: campaign songs such as “Harding, You’re the Man for Us” (written by Al Jolson), “If You Don’t Like Our President Wilson (You Knife the Land That Feeds Us All)”, etc. and songs about Presidents such as “Teddy, the Jungle-Bogie Man” (1909) about Roosevelt’s hunting exploits.

Swing/1930s: great tunes from the swing era: “Tuxedo Junction,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” etc.

1940s/WWII/Bebop: Topical songs, such as “Rosie the Riveter,” pop songs, such as “Sentimental Journey,” big band, such as “In a Mellow Tone” and “Take the A Train” and bebop by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, such as “Woody’n’You” and “Ornithology.”
